| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Mr. North (1988) |
Mr. Theophilus North (Edwards) is a stranger to the wealthy coastal enclave which is split among the haves and the servants. He becomes the object of rumors which suggest he can heal simply with a touch. He and Mr. Bosworth (Robert Mitchum), a wealth “have” who is a shut-in of his own making, become friends as much as can be allowed with North working as his paid companion. He reads to the man and rekindles Bosworth's own youthful idealism. And North falls for his remote and gorgeous daughter Persis (Huston). North is guided in local social mores and gossip by the wise Mrs. Cranston (Bacall) and Henry Simmons (Stanton).
Based on the Thorton Wilder novel. The film was conceived by John Huston; and finished under the direction of his son, Danny Huston.
