| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Lola (1961) |
LOLA is a movie written and directed by Jacques Demy in 1961.
Lola lives with her 8 year old child in Nantes, France. Michel, her first love, left her when he learned she was pregnant in order to seek his fortune abroad. Lola has never forgotten him and is still waiting for his return. She's a dancer in a local cabaret and doesn't mind going out once in a while with american sailors.
Roland has just been fired after only three days of work. It's not the first time for this young man who doesn't know exactly what he wants from life. He likes to say that he's born to travel but he never goes out of town.
Lola and Roland knew each other well when teenagers so when they accidentally meet in town, they rekindle their old friendship. While Lola will always consider Roland only as a dear friend, Roland is suffering from the love at first sight syndrome. He even gives up dreaming about leaving France.
