| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Two-Lane Blacktop |
James Taylor ("The Driver") and Dennis Wilson ("The Mechanic") play two friends who are roaming the United States in search of their next drag race. Though most of the scenes are of these two inside the car, there is very little dialogue--and when there is conversation it's strictly about the car they're driving: a souped-up Chevy. The monotony breaks up when they pick up a female hitchhiker simply named "The Girl." A bit of romance ensues between The Girl and each of the male characters. Eventually the group encounters "G.T.O.", a man in the midst of a midlife crisis. They agree to race across the country to Washington D.C., the prize being G.T.O.'s swank car. But in the end the characters become increasinly moody and interests shift from cars to uncontrollable, mixed-up feelings.
