Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Human Highway
Neil Young came up with the idea for this dreamy, whimsical comedy. Young stars as Lionel, a gas station attendent who has dreams of making it as a rock star. Next door to the gas station is a diner, where Dennis Hopper plays a fast talking cook named Cracker. The owner of the business (played by Dean Stockwell) comes up with a plan to burn down the diner and collect the insurance money. The plan goes awry when Lionel and his wacky entourage (including the new wave band Devo, who play glowing nuclear power plant workers) come onto the scene of the crime. There is a great finale where Devo and the entire cast performs a song and dance number to "It Takes a Worried Man."
