| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Young Girls of Rochefort |
THE YOUNG GIRLS OF ROCHEFORT (Les Demoiselles de Rochefort) is a musical written and directed by Jacques Demy in 1966. Music by Michel Legrand. This film earned a nomination for the 1969 Academy Award in the Best Music category.
Deneuve and Dorléac are twin sisters waiting for the man of their life. They decide to go to Paris together but will find true love on their last week-end in Rochefort. Deneuve, a dancer, will fall in love with Perrin, a sailor and a painter, who has painted the portrait of Deneuve without having met her. Dorléac, a music composer, will meet Gene Kelly in town, whom she precisely should see in Paris.
