Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Pornographers
THE PORNOGRAPHERS is a movie cowritten and directed by Shohei Imamura in 1966. This picture is about voyeurism, incest, orgies, and other sexual themes which are treated with a slight irony à la Fellini by an important japanese director.

Ogata is a director of erotic movies shot in 8mm. He usually shoots two movies a day, avoiding the police and the local mob. He's married to Haru and lives with his wife and the two children she had with her first late husband.

The health of Ogata's wife is deteriorating because of a bad heart condition. Ogata will have to deal successively with his son-in-law's never ending need for money, with his 15 years old stepdaughter's first sexual experiences and with his own impotence.
