Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Volcano
Tommy Lee Jones plays Roarke, a specialist in the Office of Emergency Management, in Los Angeles. Symptoms are showing signs of a major natural disaster in L.A., and before he knows it, Roarke finds his hands full trying to stop a major volcanic eruption. Though it isn't really a volcano as the title misleads you into believing, but a weak spot in the earth's crust, i.e., beneath the La Brea Tar Pits, where recent earthquakes have let loose some molten lava. The lava is oozing up through the city's sewer and subway systems and finding its way to the surface where it destroys everything in its path. Don Cheadle plays his sidekick in the office that tries to direct the resources where they are needed. Anne Heche is the geologist who tries to get authorities to listen that the danger is greater than they realize. Gaby Hoffman, is Roark's daughter, who is nearly killed by an exploding building.
