|Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Ace in the Hole (The Big Carnival)|
|Charles Tatum (Douglas) seems to be at the end of the line in a mediocre career as a newspaper reporter. He gets a job with a small New Mexico newspaper and is impatiently waiting for his big break. The break comes in the form of a new story with a strong human interest angle: a man (Benedict) is trapped in a mine. To ensure he makes the most of this, Tatum leads (and delays) rescue efforts while feeding the story to major newspapers, thus creating a media sensation rivaling any breaking-news circus seen in the past five years.
Directed by Billy Wilder.
