Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Madame Bovary
Based on Gustave Flaubert novel, MADAME BOVARY is a movie written and directed by Claude Chabrol in 1991. This film earned a nomination for the Academy Award in the Best Costume Design category.

Emma, the daughter of a farmer, marries Doctor Bovary. Soon, the young woman is bored by the monotonous life her husband is offering her. Emma, an avid reader, dreams of romantic affairs with interesting men. A few months later, she begins to cheat on her husband with Rodolphe Boulanger and Leon Dupuy, a lawyer's clerk, but the intensity of her love will scare both men who'll abandon her when the usurers will harass her. Emma Bovary will not fulfill her dreams of happiness in this life.
