| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Neighbors |
Earl and Enid Keese (Belushi and Walker) are a bored and sedentary suburban couple who live on a quiet street on Staten Island. One day a pair of loud, happy-go-lucky swingers, Vic and Ramona (Aykroyd and Moriarty) move into the only other house on Bird Street. Earl finds them alternately irritating and enviable (voluptuous Ramona keeps trying to seduce him, for some reason), and eventually he loses his sanity. This 1981 film, Belushi's last, is based on the Thomas Berger novel, and is more unnerving than straight slapstick. It's a weird film that's hard to like, but it can grow on you.

Earl (John Belushi) is a balding middle aged man with an unsatisfied wife (whose affair to her Native American mentor isn't a well kept secret). The house next door was empty until late one night Vic (Dan Aykroyd) and his sexy wife move in. Vic's carefree, obnoxious attitude drives Earl crazy throughout the movie and it seems like everyone is there just to anatagonize Belushi's character. It works, though, as this movie is hilarious from begining to end in one of the oddest comedies of Aykroyd's career.
