This movie tells the true story of a teacher who gets a job at an inner-city high school. He is forced to teach calculus to a bunch of kids who are smart, but don't want to show it. He continues to encourage them and when he does and they take the final exam, the students are suspected of cheating.

Edward James Olmos star as Jaime Escalante, a new math teacher at an inner city LA public school. Dissatisfied with the school's underachieving ways, he sets out to teach the kids calculus to give them a fighting chance for college. Lou Diamond Phillips stars as one of his brightest pupils as well as a reformed gang member. Andy Garcia is a government investigator who suspects the students' grades may be fraudulent.
