Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Grumpier Old Men
Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are two best friends who go through life at a very fast pace. With Walter Matthau getting older, his eyes open wide when Sophia Loren opens an Italian restaurant where the old Bait Shop used to be. Lemmon and Matthau are both determined to make the business fail, but when Matthau falls in love with Loren, things change. All this and a wedding to follow make this movie more hilarious than the original, Grumpy Old Men.

--Steve Polizzi, Resident Scholar

Max and John (Matthau and Lemmon) are two neighbors who had been fighting for 50 years. They were able to patch things up a bit in the first movie, Grumpy Old Men. However, strains in their children's relationship cause them to cancel the wedding. This, along with Max's jealousy over John's relationship with Ariel (Ann-Margret), causes Max and John to rekindle their rivalry.
