Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Madadayo
MADADAYO, also known as "Not Yet", is the last movie of Akira Kurosawa he wrote and directed in 1993.

Professor Uchida, who's just turned 60, decides to retire and live from the sales of his books. But his house is destroyed during one of the last American air raids on Japan and he must live in a hut with his wife.

Uchida's former pupils decide to build a house and to offer it to their teacher as a mark of gratefulness for the quality of his teaching. They also decide to celebrate Uchida's birthday every year. For 17 years, Uchida and his pupils will celebrate this day and have a dinner together.

MADADAYO is, for the non Japanese audience, an extraordinary account of this country's customs.
