| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Horse Feathers (1932) |
The new president of Huxley College, professor Quincy Adams Wagstaff (Groucho), has a fairly casual attitude toward education. He is worried that his son at the college, Frank (Zeppo) is romancing a slightly older widow, Connie Bailey (Todd) and is trying to keep an eye on him -- and on her. Understanding the supreme importance of football to the college, however, Wagstaff heads to a speakeasy to hire two ringer football players who can help Huxley beat rival Darwin on the field. But he grabs two misfits instead, Baravelli and Pinky (Chico and Harpo), who must then go on an abortive mission to kidnap the real ringers and keep them out of commission during the big game. A goofy climax, complete with Ben-Hur chariot and multiple footballs, ensues in the stadium. Though not their best, this is one of the better madcap Marx Brothers comedies.
