Howard Brackett (Kline) is a successful high school teacher who makes an impact on all of the children he teaches. When one of his former students pronounces to the world, when he wins an Oscar, that Mr. Brackett is gay, the town is shocked. His to be bride (Cusack) is surprised, as is everyone. Kline must go forth with the wedding and do his best to assure everyone that he is straight.
