Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Onibaba
ONIBABA is a movie written and directed by Kaneto Shindō in 1964.

A woman and her daughter-in-law live in a hut in the middle of the prairie. The only man of the house has been enlisted in the army and both women can only survive by killing stray samurais, stripping them of their arms and selling them to a local dealer.

One day, their only neighbour Hachi comes back from the war and announces to them that their son and husband is dead. A few days later, the young woman accepts Hachi's advances and both lovers meet every night while the old woman is sleeping. But she soon discovers the lovers's ploy.

The old woman starts to panic because she's persuaded that she will be left alone and starve to death. She will use threats, make the young woman feel guilty and finally try to scare her in order to break her relationship with Hachi.
