| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Hideous Kinky |
Hideous Kinky is based on a 1992 novel by Esther Freud. An Englishwoman and hippie named Julia (Winslet) travels to Morocco with her two young daughters (seven and five years old) in the late 1960's. Julia makes the journey because she is in search of freedom, love and a better understanding of herself. Once there she meets a man (Taghmaoui) who is also searching for the same things. The two fall in love. The movie is told from the youngest daughter Lucy's perspective and shows her confusion at the "looser and more open" atmosphere that exists in Morocco as opposed to England where she came from.
