Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Best Laid Plans
Nick (Nivola) is living in a dead end town and has a job that's going nowhere. The only bright spot in his life is his new girlfriend Lissa (Witherspoon). He is counting on the money from his recently deceased father's estate to get himself out of a gambling debt but discovers to his horror that the estate is also in debt and there is nothing to inherit. In desperation Nick realizes that his old college buddy Bryce (Brolin) is house sitting valuable historical artifacts and he wants to get his hands on them. Nick convinces Lissa to help him in a cunning scheme to blackmail his friend. Lissa is to meet Bryce, have him bed her and then accuse him of rape. It has the makings of a perfect plan. All at once he's got the chance to make some easy cash and get out of town. A web of sex, thefts, and kidnapping is weaved and Bryce, the seemingly wimpy and innocent victim in Nick's game, all at once may not be what he appears.
