Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Captains Courageous
On a luxury liner to Europe a spoiled rich boy, getting sick from drinking too many ice cream sodas, falls overboard without being noticed. He is rescued by a local immigrant fisherman and brought aboard a fishing boat. With no way to return home for three months, the young boy must learn to work for his food and forms a special friendship with his rescuer, Manuel. Learning to weather a large storm, gutting fish, and keeping watch on deck helps him learn about real life outside his father's mansion. When Manuel drowns in an accident, the young boy wishes he could have such a relationship with his own father.
