| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Ladykillers (1955) |
The original Ladykillers before the recent one starring Tom Hanks was released in 1954, and it is also about a group of thieves who convince an old lady that they are nothing more than a band using her house for board. The leader of the group (Alec Guinness) concocts a plan for a heist, using the aid of his other team members (Peter Sellers, Herbert Lom, Danny Green). The viewer soon finds out through a series of coincidences and maybe even a bit of fate that the thieves have met their match in the old lady (Katie Johnson). This is a great chance to see a classic comedy and to see the late great Peter Sellers.

Long before Peter Sellers became famous with the Pink Panther films, he co-starred in this wonderfully funny film starring Alec Guiness. In the film, Guiness gives a wonderful performance as the head of a group of criminals. Guiness and his gang rent a room from an old woman, and claim to be musicians. They really are using the room to plan a robbery, and using their tenant as an advantage, they work her into the scheme. The robbery is sucessful, but she then finds out what they've done. They soon decide to kill her off, before she runs to the police, but no matter how much they try, they're just not able to kill her.
