Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Wild Things
In the wealthy Florida enclave of Blue Bay, high school guidance counselor Sam Lombardo (Matt Dillon) lives the good life. He dates beautiful socialite Barbara Baxter (Jennifer Bini), captains the school sailing team, and has recently been named Educator of the Year.

When one of his students, real estate heiress Kelly Van Ryan (Denise Richards), accuses him of rape, Lombardo's world fall's apart, as her wealthy and influential mother Sandra (Theresa Russell) puts the screws to him, taking his house, getting him fired from his job, and arranging to have him savagely beaten.

Brought in on the case to investigate are Sex Crimes Unit detectives Ray Duquette (Kevin Bacon) and Gloria Perez (Daphne Rubin-Vega), who at first can't pin anything on Lombardo, until a second girl, "white trash" swamp dweller Suzie Toller (Neve Campbell) also accuses the guidance counselor of rape.

Things look bleak for Lombardo, until, under pressure from his low-rent shyster of a lawyer (Bill Murray), Suzie recants her testimony on the stand, and pins the whole thing on Kelly. The charges are dropped and Lombardo successfully sues the Van Ryans for an $8 million payday. Case closed.

Or is it? Smelling a rat, Ray Duquette, over the objections of his superiors, continues his investigation, and soon discovers a web of seduction, deceit, and betrayal, involving a conspiracy between Kelly, Suzie, and Lombardo to con Sandra Van Ryan out of her money. But can he prove it before the manipulative Lombardo can get rid of his accomplices and split for the islands with the spoils of their crime?

When Florida high school guidance counsellor Sam Lombardo (Dillion) is accused of raping popular and wealthy student Kelly Van Ryan (Richards) his life is turned upside down. When the case comes to trial bad girl trailer-trash Suzie Toller (Campbell) testifies first that Sam raped her too but then recants her story and says that she lied and so did Kelly. She said they made up the whole thing because Sam had rejected their advances. Due to Suzie's confession in court, the case is dismissed and Kelly's mother, Sandra Van Ryan (Russell), a former lover of Sam's, must pay him a large sum of money in damages.

However Sergeant Ray Duquette (Bacon) keeps investigating after the case is thrown out because he believes that Sam, Kelly and Suzie are in on a deceitful plan masterminded by Sam, to get their greedy hands on Sandra's money. His hunch proves to be correct. The three are lovers and have hatched the plan together, and the plan worked perfectly. Duquette is the only one in the police force who believes the three are guilty and he can't get anyone else on his side. Trying to convince others turns out to be more of a challenge then he's ready for.
