A french cop had a girlfriend who left him 19 years ago. One day he gets a call from her lawyer saying that she is dead and he is the beneficiary. He heads to Japan where he learns he has to take care of a daughter he never knew he had. He also learns that his girlfriend was murdered. As he struggles with his daughter and the mafia that are following him, he tries to find out why is girlfriend wanted him in Japan.

Hubert is a police detective with a reputation as a bad ass. While making an arrest in a club, a patron gets in his way and Hubert takes care of the situation. Unfortunately, the patron the chief of police's son. Hubert goes to the hospital to try an patch things up, but inadvertantly makes things worse. In a quick unfolding of the plot, we learn he has not moved on from a 19-year-old relationship with a Japanese woman he had had while stationed with French intelligence in Japan. She seemed to have vanished in thin air. Suspended because of the club incident, Hubert tries to see a woman whom he has been neglecting. It's no good. He's still in love. Ironically, he gets a call informing him of her death. She has named him in the will and he must immediately come to Japan.
Hubert discovers he may or may not have a daughter. Either way, he must look after Yumi, a wild Japanese girl shy of her majority. Together, they find there is more to her mother's death than is contained in the coroner's report. A criminal organization is after her and her mother's bank account. Hubert must protect the girl until she inherits the money and will with the help of his old partner, the sweet but bumbling Momo.
The dialogue is in both French and Japanese. The version reviewed here was dubbed in English with subtitles for the Japanese.
