Kindhearted astronomer Sam (Broderick) is devastated when his girlfriend Linda (Preston) leaves him for a suave frenchman named Anton Depeux (Karyo). Heartbroken and determined to win her back, Sam goes to New York City and moves into the abandoned building opposite his ex girlfriend's apartment to keep a watchful eye on her. A few weeks into his stay he is unexpectedly joined by quirky, ultra hip Maggie (Ryan), a photographer and motorcyclist who is determined to get revenge on ex fiance Anton for leaving her for Linda. At first Sam and Maggie are wary of one another and unsure of the other's intentions. Eventually they decide to work together to break up the couple. Their outlandish efforts yield some of the results they'd hoped for but before long Sam and Maggie realize that they are not so interested in wreaking havoc in their exes lives but instead are falling for each other.
