| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Cat on a Hot Tin Roof |
Based on Tennessee Williams' play, CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF is a movie written and directed by Richard Brooks in 1958. This film earned six nominations for the 1959 Academy awards but won none.
Brick has become an alcoholic since the death of his best friend Skipper who committed suicide two years before. Brick blames his wife Maggie for it because she was in Skipper's hotel room a few minutes before the tragic accident. He hasn't touched her anymore from this moment on.
Now, Brick, Maggie and the family of Gooper, Brick's brother, are all gathered in the family house of the head of the family, Harvey "Big Daddy" Pollitt. Big Daddy has just undergone medical exams and comes back home. The family doctor reveals to Brick that his father is suffering from a terminal disease but isn't aware of it.
While Big Daddy is starting to suffer terrible pains, all the family's secrets and hates will break out during a stormy evening. At the end of it, Brick and Maggie will be able to start a new life again after Brick has finally accepted that maybe heis the one to blame for Skipper's suicide, Brick will also be able to be reconciled with his father before his impending death.
