Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Mahapurush - The Holy Man
Satyajit Ray's Bengali comedy, the hilarious Mahapurush (The Holy Man), showcases the "spiritual powers" of "Birinchi Baba" (Charuprakash Ghosh), a Hindu ascetic, who captures the imagination of a retired lawyer and his devout Hindu family. However, the lawyer's daughter (Gitali Roy) has a clever boyfriend (Satindra Bhattachryya) who sees through the facade and decides to expose this smooth-talking hypnotist, masquerading as a spiritual Guru.
