| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Alex and Emma |
Alex Sheldon (Wilson) is a writer whose writer's block and gambling debts have landed him in a world of trouble. His editor Wirschafter (Reiner) is on his back for him to produce a new novel. When two loan sharks practically break his door down they threaten him by letting him know none too subtly, that he must finish his novel in thirty days, pay them the advance money he's been offered, or be killed.
In desperation he hires stenographer Emma Dinsmore (Hudson) to help him complete his manuscript. At first their two personalities clash as Emma doesn't want to believe his far fetched story about "finish the novel in thirty days or pay the consequences." Emma is extremely opinionated and resistant to Alex's ideas. What follows is some comic moments and finally Alex and Emma are able to get down to business as Alex dictates his tale of a romantic love triangle and Emma types but also challenges every sentence he utters. Her honest yet also intriguing perspective on his story influences Alex and soon real life begins to imitate art. As the month draws to a close, the book is almost finished and the sparks are flying between Alex and Emma.
