| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Masquerade |
Sweet, unassuming millionairess Olivia Lawrence (Tilly) has just lost her mother and is feeling lonely. She detests her scheming stepfather Tony (Glover)who enjoys making her life miserable. Olivia meets smooth talking, charming yacht captain Tim Whalen (Lowe) and begins a relationship with him although Tim has not been completely honest with her.
When Tony comes home unexpectedly from a trip and finds Olivia and Tim in bed together, he attacks her and in fear for her life and Tim's, she shoots and kills him. Olivia and Tim decide to tell the local police that Olivia was home alone asleep when her stepfather came home and attacked her so she shot him in self defense. However Olivia's old school friend, police officer Mike McGill, (Savant) has his suspicions. Soon after Tim and Olivia get married. When Tim dies a few months later in a explosion on board Olivia's boat, Mike tries to be of comfort to Olivia but she soon finds out the sordid truth- that the three men- Tim, Tony and Mike- were all in on a devious plan to get their hands on Olivia's fortune, a plan that went terribly wrong.
