Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Kama Sutra - A Tale of Love
The film is mainly set in a palace in India. Two young girls grow up together as rivals, though one is a servant, the other a princess. When the neighbouring king arrives to marry the princess, the servant offers herself to him and he seduces her.

The servant is driven away as the knowledge her seduction becomes widespread. She is welcomed into the house of an older woman who trains girls in the arts of the Karma Sutra. She falls in love with a sculptor employed by the king. Eventually she is able to save the princess's marriage.

Against the backdrop of 16th century India, this erotic tale is about the powers attained from Kama Sutra - an ancient indian treatise on sexual attainment. Maya( Indira Varma) and Tara (Sarita Chowdhury) are two women who have grown up together, but while Tara is a royal princess, Maya - who is no less beautiful - belongs to the lower caste, and is bitter about this discrimination. She extracts her revenge by seducing Tara's husband on their wedding night, drawing on her great sexual prowess attained from the Kama Sutra. What follows is a battle for power and revenge which is ultimately headed towards destruction.
