| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about My Life |
In "My Life", Michael Keaton stars as Bob Jones, who has just been told that he has cancer, a life expectancy of no more than four months, and that his wife Gail (Nicole Kidman) is pregnant with their first child. Gail encourages him to see a Chinese healer, Mr. Ho (Haing S. Ngor) who tells him that the cancer is too far developed, and that the only way to die peacefully is to let go of all the anger and fear that he has trapped within himself. In an attempt to do this, however pessimistic at the outcome, Bob starts making a video of himself, where he will discuss with his unborn child what he/she will need to know in life. There are many emotional, and also comical scenes where Bob videotapes lessons on things like shaving, sex, and love. Throughout the process of filming, Bob realizes that most of his anger resides with his family, whom he has not seen since he left home years before, and he embarks upon the journey of making peace and saying goodbye.
