| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about A Woman Called Golda |
This is a biography on film of Golda Meir -- born in Russia, raised in Wisconsin-- who became Israel's prime minister. The film follows her life from her youth (Davis) to her days on the kibbutz with husband Morris (Nimoy). It was during this period of the formation of the Jewish nation that she first became politicized. Her days as the leader of Israel in her senior years are dramatized by the singularly spectacular Ingrid Bergman.
The made-for-television film won a slew of awards including a 1982 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Special; Outstanding Film Editing for a Limited Series or a Special; and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or a Special for Ingrid Bergman (Bergman died three weeks prior to the ceremony, but after the Emmy ballots were cast.). It also had four other Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Supporting Actor/Actress nominations for Nimoy and Davis.
