Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Sure Thing
Two complete strangers, Gib, a charming class clown (Cusack) and Allison, (Zuniga) an ambitious, future-lawyer bookworm (Zuniga) answer the same ad at their East-Coast college to ride across the country to Los Angeles with a dorky couple. Gib's reason for going to L.A. is to be hooked up with a "loose" woman whom his friend assures him is a "Sure Thing." Gib and Allison, total opposites, endure each other's company for the entire trip, staying in motels along the way and driving each other up the wall... until Gib starts developing some serious amorous feelings for his studious travel companion. The problem is, she is practically engaged to her future-lawyer boyfriend...

It is winter break and college freshman Walter Gibson (Cusack) decides to go cross country to California to visit a friend of his. His friend tells him that waiting for him there is a gorgeous bikini- clad blonde bombshell who is without a doubt, a "sure thing." Gib, as he's known to his friends, can't wait. Allison Bradbury (Zuniga) is also a student at the same college and she has decided to go to California for the break to visit her boyfriend. The two mismatched personalities are thrust together on a road trip. Many comical moments take place as the pair attempt to tolerate each other's company. Somewhere along the way they both begin to have a change of heart and suddenly are not sure if what is waiting for them in California is really want they want after all.
