Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Salvatore Giuliano
Based on the life of this Sicilian hero, SALVATORE GIULIANO is a movie cowritten and directed by Francesco Rosi in 1961. Rosi won the 1962 Silver Bear at Berlin for this film.

At the end of WWII, Sicily wanted to split off from Italy. The members of the Sicilian separatist party asked the outlaw Salvatore Giuliano to start a guerrilla warfare against the Italian interests on the island. Giuliano and his little army, coming from a very poor part of the island, will kill dozens of policemen. Even the Italian army, sent into the Sicilians cliffs, couldn't find him.

After a few years, the politicians didn't need Giuliano, so he organized kidnappings for a living. But soon, the politicians, the army, the police forces and the "Honorable Society" (the Mafia) decide to unite in order to get rid of the bandit.
