| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Tough Luck |
Archie (Reedus) is a wandering grifter who has been told not to come back after running a casino scam. Down on his luck, he tries a scam at a carnival. Caught, Ike the owner (Assante) hires him, but with the proviso that Archie had better not steal from him. Ike pals up to Archie and eventually convinces him to murder his beautiful and fiery wife, Divana (Dominczyk). She seduces Archie into faking the death and escaping with the money. But Ike has set him up. He has been framed for the crime. A year later, he happens to meet her in New Orleans. She is also a grifter. He presses her for the truth. She confesses the fake murder was just a diversion for her and Ike to steal laundered casino money. Although Archie is angered by the deception, she convinces him -- using the child he's never seen and the promise of a fresh start in a clean life as a lure -- to take part in a newly-hatched plot to steal from the casino.
