| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Tunes of Glory |
Based on the James Kennaway novel, TUNES OF GLORY is a film directed by Ronald Neame in 1960. It earned a nomination for the 1961 Academy award in the "Best Writing, screenplay" category.
It's Colonel Jock Sinclair's last day as commanding officer of this regiment set in a small Scottish town. On the next morning, he'll be replaced by colonel Basil Barrow, an officer as hard-edged as he is. Nevertheless, Sinclair decides to stay with the rank of Major in the regiment.
As the new colonel abruptly changes the habits of the regiment, Sinclair is looking for any possible ways to irritate his superior or to ridicule him in front of the men. But when one night, losing his nerves, Sinclair strikes a corporal of the regiment, the battalion is shocked. Will Barrow court-martial Sinclair or forgive him for the regiment's sake ?
