Review Summary and Plot Commentary about City of God
Busca-Pe is a young, intelligent, promising boy, growing up in the most dangerous area of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: what they call the "city of God". Throughout his early youth, in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Busca-Pe watches his friends and family members become involved in gangs. They kill others, get killed, engaging in constant, violent gang warfare. In the 1980s, Busca-Pe is a young man, and he discovers that he has a talent for photography. By documenting the violence that takes place around him, he catches the attention of the local media.
