| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about A Simple Twist of Fate |
After his wife reveals she is pregnant with another man's child, Michael (Martin) becomes a miserly recluse. His stash of gold coins is stolen, and shortly thereafter, an abandoned baby toddles into his home. Michael adopts the baby and names her Mathilda, and soon becomes a loving father.
What Michael does not know is that Mathilda is actually the illegitimate daughter of the powerful local politician (Gabriel Byrne), who sues for custody of Mathilda when his own wife is unable to have children.
