| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo |
Herbie the Love Bug is back in this, his third feature film, HERBIE GOES TO MONTE CARLO. Reprising his role from the first film is Dean Jones as race car driver Jim Douglas. With car and driver, however, is no longer Buddy Hackett as Tennessee Steinmetz, but rubber-faced Don Knotts as mechanic Wheely Applegate. The trio head to Paris, France, to compete in the inaugural Trans-France Race.
In the weeks leading up to the race, Team Douglas has some rather exciting adventures, not the least of which is Herbie's infatuation with a beautiful powder-blue 1977 Lancia Scorpion. It turns out that the car's driver is a
beautiful young red-headed woman named Diane Darcy (Julie Sommars), who is among the contestants for the race, and the solitary female driver as well.
