MAITRESSE is a movie co-written and directed by Barbet Schroeder in 1973. It was one of the first movies about S&M practices.

Olivier meets Ariane by chance while trying to sell books. Ariane is a dominatrix wity a high range clientèle. Both fall in love and Olivier decides to stay at Ariane's apartment. Ariane loves her job because it gives her the opportunity to observe and to stage the various desires and obsessions of her clients. After a few weeks, Olivier decides to convince Mr. Gautier, Ariane's business partner, to ease his grip on his girlfriend.
