Wealthy Sarah Crewe is sent to an English boarding school when her father goes to war. When he is reported killed in action, she is turned into a servant by the vindictive headmistress. Sarah tries to adjust to her new role as a servant, and befriends the other young maid at the school. She also tries to find her father at a nearby army hospital, believing that he is still alive.
