| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about I'm Not Scared |
Michele (Cristiano) is a ten-year-old boy who lives in the poor southern region of Italy. His father, often absent, comes home to stay for a while, and at first Michele and his little sister are pleased. But one day the boy stumbles on a frightening secret: a small blond boy imprisoned in a hole in the ground, chained by the leg and nearly blind, at an abandoned stone farmhouse. Slowly, Michele unravels the mystery of what the boy is doing there, how his parents and a rough customer from the north named Sergio (Abantantuono) are involved, and what he should do about it. This 2003 Italian film is a classy, unhurried, but well executed thriller about children discovering some of the difficult lessons about life and grownups.
