| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Stepford Wives (2004) |
Director Frank Oz remakes the '70s horror flick with the same title as a satirical comedy. Joanna Eberhart, a high-powered television executive, is fired from her job after a contestant from one of her reality TV programs turns violent as a result of the experience. She has a nervous breakdown, and her husband convinces her that their family should leave Manhattan, and start over in charming, suburban Stepford, Connecticut. As soon as she arrives, Joanna realizes that there's something wrong with the women in Stepford: each one is perky, stupid, and physically perfect. She befriends the town's other oddballs, a cynical writer named Bobbi, and Roger, the flamboyant half of the town's only gay couple. Eventually, however, Bobbi and Roger are transformed as well, and Joanna discovers that the women (and Roger) of Stepford are robots. Does Joanna learn the truth too late?
