Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Great Outdoors
Chet, the big loveable lug, is taking his family to a lakeside house for what he hopes will be a fun family vacation of fishing, boating, swimming and enjoying nature. He certainly does not expect his annoying brother-in-law, Roman, to show up with his wife and strange twin daughters. Roman likes to make Chet look like a fool, especially in front of the kids, and Chet's patience is tested throughout. Though not the funniest comedy, The Great Outdoors is still entertaining, and offers a few memorable scenes – John Candy ingesting an enormous steak, and of course, the monstrous bear who stalks the woods and meets an unusual fate in Chet's hands.
