Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Welcome to Mooseport
Ray Romano plays Handy Harrison, a handyman and plumber in Mooseport, Rhode Island. He's a fairly average guy who thinks life is going well, though his girlfriend, Sally, is beginning to entertain thoughts of leaving him. She has been waiting quite a while for him to pop the big question, but he hasn't taken her hints that she'd like long term commitment.

As this personal drama secretly stews, the town gets all excited when an ex-President of the United States, Monroe Cole, decides to settle in their midst. He arrives with his PR man and his personal assistant, Grace, who has a lot of feelings for him that she's keeping hidden. At a restaurant shortly after his arrival, Cole spots Sally and is intrigued; her presence in town spurs him to accept an invitation to run for mayor of Mooseport.

His only competition is Handy Harrison, who has taken an interest in local politics. But Handy is so intimidated at the thought of running against a former president that he decides to drop out of the race... until he sees that Cole is starting to woo Sally. What follows is a funny political battle between the sophisticated ex-President and the indignant handyman, who can't see why his relationship with his girlfriend has gone wrong and why she seems so interested in his rival's attentions.
