| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Foul Play |
This is one of my all-time favorite movies. Gloria, played by Goldie Hawn, and Tony, played by Chevy Chase, are thrown together to solve a crime before it happens. Gloria is watching a movie when a man stumbles in and drops a package in her purse. She doesn't realize she has it at first and is pursued first by the albino, then the dwarf who want the package, which contains an incriminating piece of film. Tony, the cop, helps her and pretty soon they discover there is a plot to kill the pope while he is in town watching the opera. The plot is fun and Goldie Hawn, freely uses her characteristic ability to make a scream sound real, especially when she uses it to help escape being kidnapped. Brian Dennehey also plays a small role as Tony's policeman partner. Dudley Moore plays a memorable role as a man looking for some "fun." You'll never think of the song "Staying Alive" by the Bee Gees, the same again! Burgess Meredith is Gloria's well meaning landlord. And Billy Barty plays a bible salesman that isn't treated too nicely when Gloria thinks he is the "dwarf" that the man in the movie warned her about.
