| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Truly, Madly, Deeply |
“Truly Madly Deeply” is a British film that tekks the way death can affect the living. Juliet Stevenson plays Emma and Alan Rickman is Jamie.
Jamie has died and Emma is falling daily into more loneliness, despair and depression. Then Jamie appears in her living room and life. Happiness abounds! Emma feels she has her life back but Jamie is stuck in the flat alone, day after day. He begins inviting friends to join them – dead friends. They watch movies, play chess and rearrange the furniture. Emma is so glad to have Jamie back in her life that she overlooks the changes that bother her for a time.
While out with a pregnant friend, Emma meets a man (Mark) at a coffee shop and there is a connection but she feels as though she is letting Jamie down and tries to ignore her feelings for this man. Emma is growing tired of coming home to find her apartment full of deceased men and begins to tell Jamie about the things she enjoyed after his death. There were items she loved that had not used or seen for years because he didn't like them. She wanted the furniture the way she had arranged it, not the way Jamie wanted it. Emma's friend has the baby and she is there to witness it. It reminds her of life and of the day she met Mark and she begins to question the choices she has made.

This romance is similar to the megahit GHOST, but without the flashy pyrotechnics or the subplot of murder. Nina is devastated when her lover, Jamie, dies suddenly. She mourns his death so much that Jamie somehow reappears as a ghost to help her through the grieving process. At first, Nina is thrilled to have him back, but she soon has to decide whether or not to focus on life among the living.
