| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Besieged |
Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci presents a cross-cultural love story. Jason Kinsky is a reclusive English musician who has inherited his aunt's palatial Roman villa. He moves in with all his possessions -- including his prized piano -- and hires Shandurai, a beautiful young African woman, as a housekeeper. Despite their many differences, Jason soon falls passionately in love with Shandurai. Even after learning that she is married to a political prisoner, Jason cannot abandon his feelings.
