| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Nasty Girl |
This Oscar-nominated German film focuses on a young woman's efforts to do the right thing. Sonja is a bright student who decides to research the wartime actions of people in her Bavarian village. Those she interviews seem puposefully vague; only the town's ex-mayor, now dead, is consistently condemned as a Nazi sympathizer. To the consternation of many, though, the feisty Sonja begins to dig deeper. Although Sonja and her family are soon ostracized and even threatened, the young woman remains undeterred, and she soon discovers that plenty of people in her town have been covering up their Nazi pasts.
While the material sounds dramatic, it's actually filled with humor. The story is also leavened with a look at Sonja's love for and eventual marriage to a handsome young teacher. The filmmakers claim this film is based on a true story.
