Sam Montgomery (Hilary Duff) is a high senior who gets mistreated by her step-mother Fiona (Jennifer Coolidge) and her step-sisters in this updated Cinderella story. However, in this verison, the ball is replaced by a dance, the prince is replaced by a footplayer named Austin Ames (Chad Michael Murray), and the glass shoe is replaced with a cell phone which Sam leaves behind. Sam tries to hide or her secert of disobeying her step-family by following the advice of a coworker who replaces the fairy godmother. This become dangerous for everyone.
