Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Where the Sidewalk Ends
Written by Ben Hecht, WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS is a film noir produced and directed by Otto Preminger in 1950.

Detective Mark Dixon is a violent policeman who's been admonished several times by his superiors. Obsessed by the idea of arresting the crook Tommy Scalise, Dixon accidentally kills Ken Payne, one of Scalise's accomplices, during a routine questioning. Afraid of the consequences of this act, Dixon removes Payne's body from his apartment, hoping that Scalise would be held responsible for his death.

Soon, Jiggs Taylor, Payne's father-in-law, is arrested. Dixon who's fallen in love with Morgan Taylor, Jigg's daughter, tries his best to help Morgan without attracting the attention of his colleagues. Tormented by guilt, the police detective doesn't know what to do.
