| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Dark Blue |
Based on a story by James Ellroy, DARK BLUE is a film directed by Ron Shelton in 2002.
This story takes place in Los Angeles during the trial of the Rodney King affair. Eldon Perry is the son and the grandson of L.A. policemen. Over the years, he's accepted numerous compromises while doing his job. Now his new partner, Bobby Keough, is a young policeman who has some scruples when their direct superior Jack Van Meter asks them to arrest and eliminate two criminals for a robbery they haven't committed.
For years, Chief Jack Van Meter has used and blackmailed criminals, forcing them to commit robberies for him and he's the one responsible for the robbery Eldon and Perry are currently investigating. A subplot involves Bobby Keough's love for Beth Williamson, a L.A.P.D. sergeant working for Chief Holland. Chief Holland wants to be the first black Chief of the L.A.P.D. police and is actually preparing a file against Jack Van Meter and Eldon Perry.
